Back-to-Back Champs: North Carolina Dominates to Win Second Straight ACC Women’s Tennis Title
CARY, N.C. – The North Carolina Tar Heels are once again queens of the court.
For the second straight year, UNC captured the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Championship, shutting out Virginia 4-0 in a dominant performance at Cary Tennis Park. The win marks the 13th overall ACC title for the program and the eighth under legendary head coach Brian Kalbas.
In a rematch of last year’s final, the No. 2-seeded Tar Heels (23-4, 11-1 ACC) took control early, clinching the doubles point with strong showings on courts one and three. The dynamic duo of Reese Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton (ranked No. 9 nationally) cruised to a 6-1 victory, while Tatum Evans and Thea Rabman (No. 73) locked in a 6-3 win to give UNC the early 1-0 edge.
From there, the Heels never looked back.
Brantmeier, who was named the ACC Championship MVP, continued her stellar play with a straight-set singles win over UVA’s Sara Ziodato (6-2, 6-1) on court one. Carson Tanguilig (No. 44) followed with a commanding 6-0, 6-2 win on court five, and Claire Hill sealed the deal with a 6-2, 6-0 victory on court six to complete the 4-0 sweep.
Virginia (20-5, 10-2 ACC), the No. 4 seed, couldn’t find a way to counter UNC’s firepower, falling short in their seventh championship appearance. It marked UNC’s 21st appearance in the title match and improved the Tar Heels’ all-time record against Virginia in the ACC Tournament to 6-4.
