Lake Norman Charter Sweeps 3A Swimming & Diving Championships
CARY, N.C. – The Lake Norman Charter Knights dominated the 3A Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday at the Triangle Aquatic Center, winning both the men’s and women’s team titles. While the men secured their first championship, the women successfully defended their 2023 title.
In the women’s competition, the Knights excelled in relays. Addison Lasarsky, Lily Price, Skye Yampolsky, and Campbelle Cyrus won the 200-yard Medley Relay, while Price, Yampolsky, Cyrus, and Dakota Gayle took first in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay. The Knights also placed second in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, finishing just 1.5 seconds behind Central Cabarrus.
Cyrus secured second in the 100-yard Butterfly, Gayle took third in both the 100- and 200-yard Freestyle, and Price finished third in the 100-yard Backstroke. In diving, Kaitlyn Knulsen and Katherin Shapard placed second and third, respectively. Western Alamance’s Michaela Bentley won the diving title.
Lake Norman Charter finished with 360 points, well ahead of runner-up Central Cabarrus (185), with Carrboro in third. Concord’s Lily Hermans, who won both the 50- and 100-yard Freestyle, was named Most Outstanding Swimmer.
In the men’s competition, the Knights took second in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, finishing 2.5 seconds behind Orange. They also earned third in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay. Alex Stinson placed third in the 200-yard Freestyle, and Neil Hart took third in the 100-yard Backstroke.
Orange, which finished third overall, was led by Luke Roman, who won the 200- and 500-yard Freestyle. He was named Most Outstanding Swimmer. Orange totaled 164 points, six behind second-place Carrboro. Croatan and Forestview rounded out the top five.
In Thursday’s diving competition at the Pullen Aquatic Center, Durham School of the Arts’ William Clark won with a score of 353.9.
