NCHSAA Dual Wrestling Championships: Results
1A: Uwharrie Charter Three-Peats
Uwharrie Charter secured its third straight 1A Dual Team Wrestling title and fourth overall with a dominant 48-15 victory over Mount Airy. The Eagles won the first five and last five bouts, with pins from Aiden Foster (157), Caleb Saldana (126), Brennan Worrell (132), and Rick Riccardella (138). Caden Bond (175) earned an 11-5 decision and was named MVP.
Mount Airy’s Andrew Meadows (190) secured a pin, while Aaron Ruiz-Angel (285) won by disqualification, and Angel Olalde (106) earned a 7-3 decision. However, Uwharrie Charter closed with five straight wins, including three pins. The Eagles are now 4-2 in championship matches, making their sixth consecutive finals appearance.
2A: R-S Central Wins First Title in a Thriller
R-S Central edged Seaforth 34-32 to claim its first 2A Dual Team Wrestling Championship. The match came down to the final bout, with R-S Central’s Cayden Laws (138) securing an 8-7 victory in the third period to seal the title. Laws was named MVP.
The Hilltoppers started strong with a 19-0 lead but had to withstand a Seaforth comeback. Pins from Judge Lloyd (175), Gabe Rogers (120), and Layne Armstrong (132) kept Seaforth in contention. R-S Central responded with pinfall wins from Cameron Crawford (144), Caleb Cox (165), Connor Olivares (285), and Sam Gosnell (126). The Hilltoppers won in their championship debut, while Seaforth made its second straight finals appearance.
3A: Union Pines Claims First Championship
After three consecutive finals losses, Union Pines broke through, dominating Pisgah 47-17 for its first 3A Dual Team Wrestling Championship. The Vikings won the first seven matches, jumping to a 31-0 lead. Pisgah fought back with three wins, including pins by Christian Gibson (113) and Kane Bryson (120).
Union Pines sealed the victory with tech fall wins from Keaton Crawford and Joseph Lloyd, while Jose Salinas (285) earned a 7-1 decision. Brock Sullivan (215) won a hard-fought 4-2 decision and was named MVP.
4A: Cardinal Gibbons Captures First Title
Cardinal Gibbons won its first 4A Dual Team Wrestling Championship with a 41-22 victory over Hickory Ridge. Liam Hickey (144) set the tone with a pin in the opening match and was named MVP. Beckham Enoch and Ryan Thompson followed with technical falls, while Luke Richards (106) and Alexander Rodriguez (138) added pins.
Hickory Ridge’s Colton Campbell (190) and Damien Couture (285) secured pins, but Cardinal Gibbons controlled the match throughout. The Crusaders improved to 1-1 in championship appearances, while Hickory Ridge made its finals debut.
