WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The North Carolina Tar Heels clinched their 27th ACC Field Hockey Championship and eighth consecutive title with a 4-1 victory over Boston College in the 2024 ACC Field Hockey Championship. The top-seeded Tar Heels controlled the tournament, concluding with a decisive win over the third-seeded Eagles.
Early in the second quarter, Charly Bruder scored her fifth goal of the tournament and 26th of the season, putting UNC on the board. Just as in the quarterfinals and semifinals, Bruder opened the scoring for her team on a penalty corner, with assists from Ciana Riccardo and Katie Dixon.
With 3:28 left in the second quarter, Riccardo extended UNC's lead, scoring her first goal of the season on another penalty corner, assisted by Sietske Brüning. Penalty corners proved crucial for the Tar Heels, who earned 16 throughout the game, compared to Boston College's three.
In the third quarter, Sanne Hak converted a penalty stroke for her ninth goal of the season, pushing North Carolina's lead to 3-0. The Tar Heels further widened the gap in the fourth quarter when Ryleigh Heck, the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, scored her 13th goal, extending their lead to 4-0.
Boston College managed to get on the scoreboard with 34 seconds left, as Klara Mueffelman scored her first goal of the season from a penalty corner.
Bruder was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after netting five goals over the Tar Heels' three games.
