CARY, N.C. – In a historic first, Notre Dame claimed the Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Cross Country Championship, while Wake Forest secured its second ACC Men’s Cross Country Championship in three years.
The Wake Forest men’s team, led by senior Luke Tewalt’s seventh-place finish, captured the ACC title for the second time in three years with just 60 points, marking their sixth ACC championship overall.
Supporting Tewalt for the Demon Deacons were JoJo Jourdan (8th, 22:40.1), Charlie Sprott (14th, 22:56.1), Aidan Ross (15th, 22:57.1), and Joseph O’Brien (16th, 22:59.4), which solidified the team’s championship win and brought the title back to Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
In individual results, Virginia’s Gary Martin became the first Cavalier since 2010 to win the ACC Men’s Cross Country individual championship, setting a modern ACC Championship record with a time of 22:17.6. His teammate Will Anthony placed fifth, contributing to Virginia’s fourth-place team finish. North Carolina’s Ethan Strand and Parker Wolfe claimed the silver and bronze medals with second and third-place finishes, respectively.
Stanford, an ACC newcomer, took second place in the men’s race with 69 points, followed by North Carolina, the 2023 ACC Champion, with 80 points. Virginia finished fourth with 94 points, while Syracuse placed fifth with 122 points.
On the women’s side, Notre Dame made history by winning the ACC Women’s Cross Country Championship for the first time, ending NC State’s streak of eight consecutive titles. The Fighting Irish secured the win with 115 points.
Notre Dame’s top performer, Siona Chisholm, finished sixth with a time of 19:42.3. She was supported by teammates Mary Bonner Dalton (22nd, 20:13.8), Erin Strzelecki (26th, 20:17.5), Gretchen Farley (30th, 20:21.0), and Isabel Allori (31st, 20:21.4).
Stanford and North Carolina both tallied 121 points, with Stanford taking second place by tiebreaker. Virginia finished fourth with 152 points, followed by NC State in fifth with 160 points.
NC State’s Grace Hartman won the ACC Women’s Cross Country individual championship with a time of 19:15.1, marking the sixth consecutive individual title for a Wolfpack runner. Teammate Hannah Gapes placed third, earning the bronze medal and additional points for NC State.
The top true freshman finisher in each race earned the ACC Freshman of the Year title. Wake Forest’s JoJo Jourdan, with a seventh-place finish in 22:40.1, won Men’s Freshman of the Year, becoming the second consecutive Demon Deacon to earn the award. Clemson’s Silvia Jelego was named Women’s Freshman of the Year, finishing second among freshmen with a 6k time of 19:22.6.
