North Carolina A&T Claims Ninth MEAC Bowling Championship, Secures NCAA Tournament Spot

RALEIGH, N.C. – North Carolina A&T State University reclaimed the MEAC throne with a dominant 4-1 victory over the University of Alabama-Birmingham in the 2025 MEAC Bowling Championship. The Aggies, the tournament’s top seed, swept through all four of their matches to capture their ninth MEAC title in program history and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Bowling Tournament.

This victory marks North Carolina A&T’s fourth MEAC championship in the last five seasons (2021, 2022, 2023, 2025), solidifying their place as a powerhouse in collegiate bowling.

Match Breakdown

The Aggies set the tone early, taking Game 1 with a 183-163 win. Led by five strikes and three spares—including a clutch double in the tenth frame from Maya Avilez—A&T capitalized on UAB’s open frames in the eighth and tenth.

In Game 2, North Carolina A&T extended their lead, winning 179-167. The Aggies’ balanced performance, highlighted by four strikes and five spares, kept them ahead of a UAB team that struggled to find rhythm, managing just two strikes and six spares.

The Aggies continued their dominance in Game 3, edging out UAB 187-175. Laura Garcia’s strikes in the second and seventh frames helped A&T take a commanding 3-0 match lead. Despite a late push from UAB’s Madison Colston, who delivered a turkey (three consecutive strikes) in the tenth frame, the Blazers couldn’t close the gap.

UAB fought back in Game 4, earning a 171-162 win to stay alive. The Blazers cleaned up their frames with six spares and two strikes, while the Aggies faltered, leaving two frames open.

Determined to finish strong, North Carolina A&T delivered a dominant performance in Game 5, outscoring UAB 196-145 to clinch the championship. The Aggies’ precision and consistency, with four strikes and five spares, proved too much for the Blazers, who left four frames open.
